I started an experiment with knitting a flat-topped hat. That’s not weird. I was using yarn I spun today. That’s not weird. The fiber I spun came from my cat, Prince. That is weird. It’s amazing how what seems like so much hair can turn out to be very little yarn.

I finished the back of my mom’s cardigan and started one of the fronts.

I’m almost done with the back of my mom’s cardi! I finished the armhole shaping and I’ve knit a few inches since- only a few more before the shoulders. If I continue at this rate, I should be starting one of the fronts in a day or two. We rented Return of the King last night (waiting for the extended edition to buy it) and it was just as good as the first time I saw it!

Well, after knitting several inches on my mom’s cardi today-it’s past 15 inches!- my left index finger feels awful. I knit continental with the yarn wrapped around that finger, and as it feeds through it rubs against the skin and leaves nasty red dents. Kind of like rope burn. So I knit myself a finger-cover out of the wonderfully soft Homespun. It actually doesn’t hinder my knitting at all, though it feels very weird. And it keeps my finger from hurting! (The red marks are still there, though.)

Like I mentioned, I’m really going fast on my mom’s cardi. I’m to the armhole decreases on the back already, and I started on Sunday. Still no teacup to show- although now that I mention it I hear it calling to me to finish from its place on my bookshelf. :P
I’ve felt odd for the past couple of hours, like there’s something I need to say that keeps eluding me….

To keep myself motivated, I’ve been setting little goals for myself to knit each day. On my mom’s cardi, it’s 4 inches a day. That way I just sit down and do it, and then I keep going, exceed my goal, and feel great. I’m nearing 11 inches up the back now.

I haven’t finished my teacup yet- I was doing (I thought) the i-cord bind off last night and noticed it was looking odd. I looked back at the directions and realized I was following the pattern for the i-cord, not the i-cord bind off. ARGH! It’s extremely difficult to rip out such tiny stitches without losing any, and when I retrieved all of my stitches I had been poked several times and decided to finish it later. :P

I’ve been reading a bunch of my old blog entries, and the number of typos is amusing. I noticed something else quite funny- on December 11, I commented that we never get snow for Christmas, it always comes around Valentine’s. Sure enough, on Feb 14, my entry is WHHHEEE Snow!

I joined the tea party at Alison’s, and I’m making the Fiesta Tea Set. I don’t have size 2 dpn’s, however, and my 3’s are busy, so I got out a spool of thread and my 0000’s. It’s very odd knitting; so far I’ve done the base and a few rows up the side.

I’m working on my mom’s cardigan a lot, and it’s 6 inches long now:
It’s a bit darker than the picture shows- the yarn is a mix of green and black.
